Your accident lawyer knows that, after an accident, nothing is more important that your physical recovery. In fact, you are required – by law — to maximize your recovery in order to collect damages. If you fail to do so, you may not receive any of what you are owed.
The following steps are important
In order to increase the likelihood of both physical and financial recovery, an accident lawyer might tell you to:
• Keep physician appointments. Maintain contact with your doctor so you can act quickly if (or when) problems arise. If you must cancel an appointment, give the physician as much notice as you can. If a defendant’s lawyer sees that you are a “no show” for any doctor, that fact can be used against you during the case.
• Keep physical therapy appointments. Your physician may recommend physical, occupational, or even speech therapy to help with recovery, depending upon the type and severity of your injuries. Such treatment is often prescribed for “soft tissue injuries.”
• Follow your physician’s instructions closely. If he or she recommends a particular prescription, therapy, or treatment, do not go against such advice.
• Listen to your physician’s instructions in terms of work and recreation. If your physician tells you to decrease or eliminate previous activities, it is important that you do so.
After you talk to a doctor, see an attorney.
